Ashanti Black Pepper

Ashanti pepper (Piper guineense) known as Ndongo Bela is an exotic variety of black pepper close to cubeb pepper (Piper Cubeba), which grows in the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Unlike cubeb pepper that is large and spherical in shape, Ashanti pepper berries are prolate- elliptically shaped, small, and smooth.

Our Ashanti pepper has a unique characteristic that makes it an exotic spice compared to regular black pepper (Piper nigrum);

Exotic Ashanti pepper contains high levels of volatile oils for a pleasant floral aroma compared to regular black pepper with low volatile oils, giving a spicy and woody flavor.

Ashanti pepper has a milder flavor due to its low piperine content compared to the regular black pepper that has high piperine for the spicy flavor.
